Prototype to Product

Design and development of a volumetric video-driven LED display for installation and events from prototype to final product.

This product was installed in the Prow of the Flatiron Building in New York and was also used in the stage production of the 2024 Riyadh Masters Esports World Cup.

To determine the correct current gain settings for the LED brightness and color, I performed tests and measurements using a spectrometer and luminance meter.

Rigid-Flex PCB Design

A video-driven volumetric display of larger pitch and different approach to creating pixels. The main design challenge was to increase ergonomics during manufacturing since the previous design was extremely tedious to construct as it involved multiple connectors, solder joints, and flex circuits.

The resulting updated design was more efficient in thermal dissipation, easier to construct and only resulted in a 20% increase in physical housing size.

Sun Sensor for Satellite NavigationAmazon, Inc.

Development and testing of a in-house hemispherical sun sensor to determine the position of a satellite relative to the sun. Analog voltages from an array of low-cost photodiodes were mapped and vectorized to determine the position of the sun as a function of the intensity.

I developed the entire test setup and procedure to determine the functionality and effectiveness of the photodiode array, which involved placing the sensor atop a pan tilt unit in the incident pathway of a collimated xenon arc lamp solar simulator. The execution, data collection and processing was completely automated using Python scripts.

There were some concerns that the plastic casing of the photodiodes would degrade due to UV exposure, so further environmental testing was conducted. Additionally, we found that the clear anodized finish of the baffle caused spurious reflections, and was a source of noise in the signal. This was solved by changing the finish to black anodize.
